Unterwegs in Rio ...
Out in Rio ...
Here is a small impression of my journey through the neighborhood. After the small tranquil Brazil follows the great famous city of Rio, in all its bustle and anonymity. I´m in the Laranjeiras neighborhood, a few kilometers away from the center and the world famous Copacabana beach. My first impression: A typical metropolis. I can hardly see people smiling, everyone is busy and somehow for themselves. Quite a big surprise for me. But the closer you get to the beach, the more relaxed people are. I think many leave their satisfaction and smiles there. Today, I went on the path of Jesus Christ, who welcomes visitors with open arms and is certainly pleased by the thousands Selfies in all possible positions or surprised. What a spectacle! I had to take the cogwheel train "Trem de Corcovado", because of safety reasons, walking to the statue by my self was not recommended. Costs: 51 BRL for the round trip. Well, the view is fantastic, even though it was a bit hazy today.
Warnung!
Doch was hätte mir eine Anzeige gebracht?
Warning!
One thing I must mention, although I'm not quite sure if I should post this at all. But such things could happen on the road. I was groped here at the hostel in an improper way. I would even see it as a sexual harassment. On my first night, I have a bed in a twelve-bed dormitory, I was sexually harassed by a roommate while I was sleeping. To say it clear, he was touching my genitals. When I woke up, dazed and stunned, I rebuked him in no uncertain terms. He just nodded and laid without words back in his bed. I then went back to sleep trying not to make a big story out of it. But in the end I'm still shocked about the insolence and presumption of that person performing such an insulting act in general and also in an occupied multiple bedroom. But what else could I have done? Report that to the police? I don´t know. And I do not know how often these things happen, but they happen that is reality. I know now. But who is more affected? Male or female travelers? How can you protect yourself against it? Right now I don´t have answers. But I think it is an important subject for a serious research!
Vielen Dank!
